The church was probably built on the initiative of monks from the Upper Town, the oldest record of it dates back to 1365. The Gothic interior is fully preserved: we can see both paintings from the 15th century and more recent ones from 1891, by Tomaž Fantoni.
In the upper niche of the main altar is the greatest treasure of the church and one of the oldest altar statues in our country, the Solčavska Marija: a late romantic statue of a seated Mother with a child in her arms, who supports the child's face with her left hand and sits on a stone bench with a pillow. The statue was made around 1250. Viewing is possible every day.
