The original church dates back to the 15th century, and was built in its current size between 1721 and 1725.
In the treasury of this important pilgrimage church, gifts from the Austrian, Polish, French and Naples courts were collected. Among the goldsmith's valuables on display are, for example, a gold chalice with patena, the work of the Parisian master R. J. August (1760), and the precious stone-decorated moštranca, the work of the Viennese goldsmith J. J. Wurth (1746). Among the Baroque Mass vestments are cloaks donated by Empress Maria Theresa (1750), Queen Maria Josepha of Poland (1753), and the mother of King Louis XVI of France. (1763). Viewing of the treasury is possible by prior telephone announcement.
